Newark, August 1, 2007 - New Summer Program at NJIT Helps High Schoolers Build Connections to Real-World Projects
Lisa Simone, PhD, an assistant research professor in the department of biomedical engineering, works with high school students enrolled in the Connections Program, which debuted at NJIT this summer. Through the CCS Capstone Open University Connections Program, high school students work in small project teams to solve real world problems based on scenarios drawn from actual industry cases in a broad array of fields, including health, communications, sports, and entertainment. Founded by Osama Eljabiri, lecturer and director of CCS capstone courses at NJIT, the program is focused on building a shared peer-to-peer education network that offers unique learning experiences.
Newark, July 26, 2007 - CCS Capstone Open University at NJIT To Present Live Robotic Surgery Broadcast
The CCS Capstone Open University at NJIT will host a live robotic surgery broadcast using the da Vinci Robot on August 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center, Conference Rooms 3710-3720-3730. Seats are limited and registration is required. Register online.
5- News12 NJ (TV Interview)
The TV channel (News12 New Jersey) has dedicated one of its programs (In Our Schools) to cover our first summer 2007 internship program including our recent Live Robotic Surgery event. In this TV program, News 12 host Bryan Jenkins interviewed five of our HS champions to discuss their experiences in our “Real World Connections” program.
The show will air this weekend a total of six times -- three times on Saturday (August 18, 2007) and three on Sunday (August 19, 2007) 7 a.m., noon and 4:30 p.m. each day.
These five students interviewed are:
- Carlos Arce – Mount Olive High School – Mount Olive – NJ – Junior going into Senior – one of our elected CEO’s for the HS real world connections program
- Jacqueline Olmstead – Pope John XXIII Regional High school – Sparta – NJ – Freshman to Sophomore – she and her team did an outstanding project with our science notebook sponsor Harley Carnes at CBS radio.
- Mary Sheehy - Ridgefield Park Jr.-Sr. High School – Sophomore to Junior – was part of our very important projects in Bio Medical Engineering with professor Lisa Simone.
- Phil Grayeski - Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School- Freshman going into to Sophomore – did a remarkable project with our sponsor at BanDeMar Networks relating medicine to technology and his work is now displayed at the Liberty Science Center
- Abhimanyu Ramachandran- Mount Olive High School – Mount Olive – NJ – who was part of a team with the associate Dean of the College of science and liberal arts at NJIT and worked on a project about predicting baseball game results in advance using math, statistics and computer science.
